  • – The rice water left on the inner lid or in the inner pot may form a starch film but it is harmless.
How to clean each part
PartHow to clean
Inner PotWipe alien materials and moisture from the outer and bottom of the inner pot. A rough sponge, brush or abrasive may result in peeling of the coating — use dishwashing detergent and a soft cloth or sponge.
Top CoverIf rice water remains on the lid, wipe it with a dry dishcloth. Since the edge of the lid is made of metal, clean it with care.
Main UnitThe rice water generated while cooking is designed to collect in the dew dish. After cooking, clean it with a dry dishcloth.
Inner BodyIf alien materials stick to the temperature detector, remove them avoiding damage to the metal plate. Wipe alien materials or moisture from the thermal plate.

How to detach the detachable cover

About Lithium battery

This product contains a lithium battery for blackout compensation and the clock. The battery lasts about 3 years depending on use. If the current time is not displayed on the screen, the battery is exhausted and should be replaced.

What is blackout compensation

This product memorizes the previous condition and process; after a blackout it operates immediately. If a blackout occurs during cooking, cooking is delayed by the blackout time. If the rice became cold because of the blackout, warming is cancelled.

BEFORE COOKING RICE

  1. Clean the inner pot and remove any moisture.

    • Clean the inner pot with a dishcloth. A rough sponge may cause peeling of the inner surface.
  2. Using the measuring cup, place the rice in a separate bowl per serving.

  3. Rinse the rice until the water runs clear, then transfer it to the inner pot.

  4. Adjust the water to the water level line for the menu, place the inner pot in the cooker and close the lid.

FOR TASTY RICE

  • – Always measure rice correctly with the measuring cup. (The amount measured by a commercial rice container may vary.) Adjust water to the water level line after placing the inner pot on a flat surface. If the water amount is incorrect, the rice may be undercooked or scorched.
  • – Store rice correctly. Purchase rice in as small a quantity as possible and avoid direct sunlight or hot/humid places. For dried rice unpacked for a long time, cook with more water (about a half water level line); dried rice may be hard or undercooked.
  • – Keep timer cooking short. For dried-up rice, avoid timer cooking if possible and add water (about a half level). Timer cooking over 10 hours or with dried rice may cause rice to be undercooked, scorched or cooked unevenly.
  • – Keep warm time short. Keep rice warm for less than 12 hours; longer may cause discoloration or odor.
  • – Always clean the cooker frequently; in particular wipe alien materials from the lid. Negligent cleaning may cause an odor while keeping rice warm.

HOW TO COOK

  1. Press the “Menu/Min” button and select the desired menu.

    • Each press cycles: Glutinous → Turbo → Steam → Mixed/Brown → Porridge.
    • Once Glutinous, Turbo and Mixed/Brown rice are cooked, their menus are memorized, so you may not need to re-select the same menu.
  2. Press the “Cook/Reheat” button to start cooking.

  3. Steaming boiled rice.

    • The remaining cook time is shown on the display from the steaming process; it may vary depending on the menu.
  4. Completion of cooking.

    • When cooking completes and a beep sounds, the Keep Warm function starts. Quickly stir the rice; if not stirred, it may discolor or develop an odor.
    • Do not press the “Cancel” button while cooking — it will cancel cooking.

  4. Set the presetting time with the “Preset/Hrs” and “Menu/Min” buttons.

    • Example: to eat rice at 7:30 A.M., set 7 hours with Preset/Hrs and 30 minutes with Menu/Min. (Preset/Hrs = 1 hour unit; Menu/Min = 1 minute unit.)
  5. Press the “Cook/Reheat” button.

    • When presetting finishes, the time lamp turns on and preset cooking completes at the set time. The preset time is stored. If a small amount of rice is cooked, it may finish earlier than the set time.

Precautions for preset cooking

  • – If rice was dried up, it may be hard or undercooked. Results can vary depending on preset time and cooking conditions.
  • – To change the preset time, press the cancel button and start as new.
  • – If the setup time is shorter than the cooking time, cooking starts immediately.
  • – If the setup time exceeds 13 hours, the preset time changes automatically and displays a mark. (Maximum 13 hours; use preset to finish cooking from 1 hour to 13 hours later. Press Hrs or Min to check the current time for 2 seconds.)

TO KEEP WARM THE COOKED RICE TASTY

For a Meal

If you want warm rice, press the “Cook/Reheat” button to start reheating. After 9 minutes, the reheated rice tastes as if just cooked.

  1. On Keeping Warm

    • A mark on the display indicates the rice is kept warm for 3 hours. Press the Hr. button to show the elapsed time; press “Menu/Min” to show the current time.
  2. On Reheating

    • The mark turns round and round while reheating.
  3. Completion of Reheating

    • After reheating, the Keep Warm function restarts and the elapsed warm time is displayed.
  • – To change the current time while keeping warm, refer to page 13.
  • – Frequent use of the Reheat function may discolor or dry the rice. Use it once or twice per day.
  • – If a separate appliance or gas burner is used to cook rice, put the rice into the cooker and press “Cook/Reheat” to keep warm. Transferring hot rice to a cold cooker may cause discoloration or odor.
  • – 24 hours after keeping warm, the elapsed time blinks on the display as a long-time warning.

Cautions for Keeping Warm

  1. It is recommended to evenly stir the cooked rice after cooking to improve taste. (For a small quantity, pile the rice in the center of the inner pot.)
  2. Keeping rice warm for a long time may cause discoloration or odor — keep warm for less than 12 hours. After 24 hours the elapsed time blinks.
  3. Do not keep the rice scoop in the inner pot while keeping warm; a wooden scoop may generate bacteria and odor.
  4. The warming status of mixed/brown rice is worse than plain rice — do not keep it warm if possible.
  5. The rice at the edge of the inner pot or the bottom of the steam outlet may turn plain and swollen — stir and mix the rice.
  6. Do not mix a small quantity of rice or leftovers with the rice being kept warm — it may develop an odor. (Use a microwave for cold rice.)

Odor Develops While Keeping Warm

  • – Clean the cooker frequently; negligent cleaning of the lid part may develop an odor while keeping warm due to bacteria proliferation.
  • – Even if apparently clean, bacteria can be present. If strong odors develop, boil water to sterilize: fill water to the plain rice water level line for 2 persons, add a big spoonful of ginger, close the lid and press Cook/Reheat to boil. Press Cancel 30~40 minutes after boiling, then always clean the inner pot.
  • – If you keep rice warm without cleaning the inner pot after steaming food, an odor may penetrate the rice.

How to Adjust the Warm Temperature

If an odor develops, water drops form or the rice is discolored despite frequent cleaning, the warm temperature may be incorrect. Adjust the temperature.

  • – Press the “Menu/Min” button in Keep Warm or Standby mode for over 5 seconds. The display changes and a buzzer sounds; the figure shows the current warm temperature.
  • – Press the “Preset/Hrs” button to change the display in turn.
  • – After setting the desired temperature, press “Cook/Reheat” to enter the value (a buzzer sounds). If you press Cancel or 7 seconds pass with no input, it returns to Standby.
  • – A stale smell and many water drops: the temperature is low — raise it by 1~2℃.
  • – The rice turns yellow, gets dry and develops an odor: the temperature is high — lower it by 1~2℃.
Customized Warm function: used when water runs when you open the inner lid while keeping warm or the rice is swelled up. Press “Menu/Min” in My mode, press “Preset/Hrs” to change the display, set the value and press “Cook/Reheat” to enter. If plenty of water runs out when opening the lid, raise the setting by 1~2 stages; if the rice is swollen around the edge, lower the setting by 1~2 stages.
