DOME (STEAM) LAMP / IMPORTANT NOTES
- โ This product has a dome (steam) lamp that shows that rice is steaming after cooking.
- โ For the best rice, after cooking is complete, open the lid only after the dome lamp has turned off.
Notes on the lamp
- โ First power-on: Keep Warm lamp only on.
- โ During cooking: Cook lamp only on.
- โ During steaming: Dome and Keep Warm lamps on together (Cook lamp off).
- โ During keep warm: Keep Warm lamp only on (Dome lamp off).
- โ Dome lamp duration after cooking: approx. 15โ20 minutes (may vary with rice quantity, environment and temperature).
- โ The dome lamp responds to the internal temperature, so it turns on even when boiling water for maintenance. It turns off automatically once the product cools after boiling.
- โ For continuous cooking, let the product cool sufficiently before use.
Important Notes
Always observe the steaming time.
- The ideal steaming time is about 15โ20 minutes. (Open the lid after the dome lamp turns off.)
- The time for the dome lamp to turn off may vary with rice quantity, environment and temperature.
The dome lamp cannot be operated manually.
- The dome lamp is designed to turn on only when a certain temperature is reached (cooking completion, boiling water for maintenance, etc.).
- You cannot turn the dome lamp on or off at will.
The dome lamp operates according to the product temperature.
- Even if you open the lid or remove the inner pot while the dome lamp is on, it stays on.
- The dome lamp turns on when the product heats up (cooking, boiling water), stays on for about 15โ20 minutes of steaming, then turns off automatically as the product cools. Always open the lid only after the dome lamp has turned off.
HOW TO USE
Measure the rice accurately with the measuring cup.
- One cup of rice is about 360mL, which is about 2 adult servings.
- Half a cup of rice is about 180mL, which is about 1 adult serving.
Wash the rice thoroughly in a separate bowl, not in the inner pot.
- How to wash: โ In a separate container, rub the rice with your palm about 20 times. โก Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. โข Let the washed rice drain in a sieve for about 30 minutes for even better rice.
Put the washed rice in the inner pot and adjust the water.
- The marks inside the inner pot are the reference for the water level. e.g. to cook 15 servings, wash 7.5 cups of rice (with the 2-serving cup), put it in the pot first, and add water exactly to the 15 line.
- โป Place the inner pot on a level surface for accurate water adjustment.
- When the rice has soaked enough, or for firmer rice (โถ): add less water than the standard.
- For old rice, or for softer rice (โท): add more water than the standard.
- Caution: if the rice and water amounts are not adjusted accurately, the rice will not turn out as desired. Adding rice above the maximum rice line will prevent proper cooking.
Insert the inner pot and close the lid firmly (until it clicks).
Plug in the power cord and press the cook switch.
When cooking finishes, it automatically switches to keep warm.
- The dome and keep-warm lamps turn on together; the dome lamp turns off after about 15โ20 minutes.
After the dome lamp turns off, stir the rice evenly, then serve and keep warm.
HOW TO USE THE ANTI-SCORCH PLATE
Wash the rice: wash the rice thoroughly in a separate container.
Add the rice: place the anti-scorch plate flat on the bottom, then slowly add the washed rice.
Adjust the water: adjust the water level to the inner-pot mark (e.g. for 15 servings) above the anti-scorch plate.
Cautions for the anti-scorch plate
- โ The anti-scorch plate is harmless to the body, so use it with confidence.
- โ After cooking and after the dome lamp turns off, stir the rice evenly and be sure to remove the anti-scorch plate. Keeping it inside the pot while on keep-warm may cause odor or spoilage.
- โ Wash the anti-scorch plate before use. Using it with foreign matter on it may cause odor or spoilage.
- โ To clean, soak the anti-scorch plate in water, then rub it gently with a scrubber.
- โป Scorching may occur in areas the anti-scorch plate does not touch (the center and outer edge of the inner pot).
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- โ The inside surface is coated with fluorocarbon resin to prevent rice from sticking to the inner pot.
- โ Always use the provided rice scoop.
- โ Do not put metal spoons or utensils inside.
- โ Do not use benzene, thinner, etc.
- โ When seasonings are used, wash immediately.
- โ Stains may appear during use, but they have no hygienic effect.
- โ Remove and clean the detachable cover thoroughly after every use.
- โ When storing, cooking or keeping warm, completely remove moisture from the outer surface of the inner pot; otherwise the outer coating may discolor.
- โ If rice water collects after cooking, it can cause odor, so always wipe it clean.
- (Temperature sensor and heating plate care) If rice grains are stuck, remove them without damaging the temperature sensor or heating plate.
- โ Wipe the body frequently with a dry cloth.
- โ Wash the detachable cover with water, then wipe with a dry cloth.
NOTES
- โ To remove odor during keep warm: โ Add water to about the 10-serving cooking water line. โก Close the lid and press the cook button. โข Boil the water for about 10 minutes, then switch to keep warm. โฃ When the water has cooled suitably, take out the inner pot and detachable cover and wash them clean.
- โ There may be foreign matter on the inner pot after unpacking, so wash the inner pot before first use.
- โ Without the detachable cover, keep-warm performance drops, so always attach the detachable cover before use.
- โ Never use the inner pot for anything other than cooking rice. If it was used for another purpose, remove odor using method 1 before cooking.
- โ What is the 'melanoidin' phenomenon? This jar cooker produces a light yellow tint on the bottom of the rice; this is because it is designed to let the rice absorb excess moisture and develop its savory aroma and taste (the melanoidin reaction), making the rice delicious.
- โ A 'tick' sound from the product during keep warm is the sound of the keep-warm thermostat operating normally; it is not a malfunction.
- โ During keep warm, the product is designed to receive power and light the lamp even without the inner pot. (Unplug the power plug when not in use.)
- โ The dome lamp is designed to turn on together with the keep-warm lamp when cooking completes and switches to keep warm. (It turns off after about 15โ20 minutes; the time may vary with rice quantity, environment and temperature.)
- โ The dome lamp operates only within the appropriate temperature range. (You cannot turn it on/off at will.)
- โ After cooking or when boiling water for maintenance, if the internal temperature is high the dome lamp stays on even when not steaming. (It turns off automatically as the product cools below the set temperature; this is not a malfunction.)
- โ For details about the dome lamp, refer to the Dome (Steam) Lamp section on page 7.
- โ Do not wash the inner pot with sharp utensils (fork, spoon, chopsticks, etc.) left inside. The inner pot coating may be damaged.
CHECK BEFORE ASKING FOR SERVICE
โผ If not used correctly, the jar cooker may not work properly even when it is not broken. If the rice is not cooked well or there is a keep-warm problem, check the table below; if the problem persists, contact customer service.
| Symptom | Check points | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Rice water overflows | Did you add more water than the standard level? Did you cook without attaching the detachable cover? | Open the lid and remove some water. Attach the detachable cover. |
| Cooked rice is too firm, undercooked, or too soft | Was the water adjusted correctly? Is there foreign matter on the bottom of the inner pot or is the pot bottom uneven? Did you open the lid before the dome lamp turned off after switching to keep warm? Was the power cut or the cook switch turned off during cooking? | Adjust the water to the measuring marks for the amount of rice. Wash off the foreign matter. Do not open the lid; open it only after the dome lamp turns off. Do not touch it until the cook switch turns off automatically when cooking is done. |
| Rice is scorched/stuck to the inner pot | Was the rice washed enough? Did you force the cook switch even after it moved to keep warm? Did you cook again over scorch marks without washing the pot bottom? Was there foreign matter between the heating plate and the inner pot? Did you use the anti-scorch plate? | Always wash the rice clean. Never press the cook switch after cooking is done. Always keep the inner pot clean. Keep the heating plate and inner pot free of foreign matter. Use the anti-scorch plate when cooking. (Refer to page 9.) |
| Odor or discoloration of rice during keep warm | Is the lid closed tightly? Did the plug come out of the outlet during keep warm? Did you keep warm with the scoop, cold rice or other rice inside? Was the amount of rice kept warm too small? | Close the lid completely with no gap. Always keep the plug connected during keep warm. Do not add the scoop, cold rice or other kinds of rice. When the amount is small, mound the rice in the center of the inner pot to keep warm. |
| The dome lamp is on before pressing the cook switch | Did you try continuous cooking before the dome lamp turned off? Did you boil water for maintenance just before use? | The dome lamp turns off by itself once the product cools below a set temperature; let the product cool sufficiently before use. The dome lamp operates at a set product temperature. |
| The dome lamp is off after cooking is complete | Did you force the cook switch? Did you cook less than 10 servings? | Cook within the range of minimum (10 servings) to maximum (30 servings). If the dome lamp malfunctions even after normal use, contact customer service (1588-8899, no area code). |
INNER POT COATING
- โ What is inner-pot coating? It refers to applying a thin film of resin to the outer surface of the inner pot to improve heat resistance, chemical resistance and non-stick properties.
- โ What is fluorocarbon resin? It is a resin with excellent heat resistance, non-stick and low-friction properties compared with other polymers, widely used as a coating material for food containers.
How to use the inner-pot coating for a long time
- โ Strong impact, or cutting food inside the pot with a knife or scissors, can damage the pot, so use it carefully; avoiding cutting food inside the pot keeps the coating undamaged for long use.
- โ When washing, avoid steel wool and rough scrubbers; wash gently with a soft material such as a sponge.
- โ When washing, do not leave utensils, cups or dishes inside the pot; wash the inner pot by itself.
Is it safe?
The coated surface contacts food directly during cooking, but fluorocarbon resin has been proven harmless to the body, so you can use it with confidence.
